New Veteran Student Checklist

Follow the steps to take advantage of your VA benefits. You may contact Tanisha Millender for further information in the Counseling and Testing Department.

1. Complete the online application to Brazosport College.
2. Students interested in the U.S. Department of Veteran Affairs educational benefits must:
A. Submit the VONAPP application. *If you have used your benefits at a previous Institution please log in to your eBenefits account and print off your Remaining Entitlement form.

B. Read and initial the Student Statement of Understanding for Veteran Benefits for the applicable Chapter.
  • Chapter 33 (Post 9/11) GI Bill® - All veterans who served on active duty after 9/11/2001 may qualify for this benefit.

  • Chapter 30 (Active Duty) - Veterans who entered the armed services after July 1, 1985 and elected to contribute $100 per month for the first 12 months of their enlistment.

  • Chapter 35 (Dependents) - Dependents (including spouses) whose parent (wife/husband) served on active duty and were 100% permanently disabled as a result of active duty or was missing or killed in action.

  • Chapter 31 (Service-Connected Disability) - Veterans who received a service-connected disability while on active duty.

  • Guests/Concurrent Student- You are considered a guest student if you are currently (or will soon be) enrolled at another college and are taking courses at Brazosport College. Guest students take BC courses to fulfill their parent institution's degree requirements.
C. Submit these forms below along with the Student Statement of Understanding. (You may print these forms or pick them up from the BC Certifying Official's office located in the Counseling & Testing Department.)
3. Meet with Tanisha Millender, the Certifying Official.

  4. Visit an Advisor to register for classes in the Counseling & Testing Department.

  5. After you have registered for classes and your schedule is not expected to change, submit BC Request  to be Certified for VA Benefits form online. If you have not received an email from the VA indicating they have received that certification request within 4-6 weeks, please call 979-230-3473.
If your schedule changes in any way from what it is when you FIRST submit the 'BC Request to be Certified for VA Benefits' form, you must bring a new 'Statement of Account' from the Cashier's Office to the School Certifying Official's office in E-126, or call 979-230-3473 notifying us of the change in order for us to correct your original certification, VA file details, and report the correct tuition and fees for Post 9/11 GI Bill® students.
