TSIA 2.0 Information

The THECB (Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board) has approved the release of the new TSIA 2.0 effective January 11, 2021. All students testing January 11th and onward for the TSIA exam will need to take the new version of the TSIA exam.

All new degree-seeking students are required to take the Texas Success Initiative Assessment (TSIA 2.0). The purpose of the exam is to assess your academic ability in order to identify the best course sequence for you. Your TSIA Assessment scores will determine your entry-level for the subjects of reading, writing, and math.

TSIA 2.0 Frequently Asked Questions

What is the TSIA 2.0 and when does it go into effect?

On Monday, January 11, 2021, Brazosport College will begin administering TSIA 2.0 which was approved by the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board. The current TSIA will no longer be available, and anybody testing for TSIA from that day forward will be testing under the new TSIA 2.0 version.

Will my current TSIA test scores be valid?

Yes, If you have taken the current TSIA, your test scores are valid for a period of 5 years from the date of testing. However, if you are not yet TSIA complete on any section of the TSIA, after January 11, 2021, you will need to test with the new TSIA 2.0 test.

What is changing with the launch of TSIA 2.0?

Some of the TSIA 2.0 changes include:

  • Current Reading and Writing tests will be combined into one ELAR section
  • New college ready scores for Math and ELAR:
    TSIA 2.0 Scores:
ELAR (Reading and Writing)- College Ready Classification (CRC) 945 and Essay 5 or College Ready Classification (CRC) less than 945 and Diagnostic Level of a 5 or 6 and at least a 5 Essay

If I am TSIA complete on Reading and not and Writing will I have to take the new ELAR test or can I just take the Writing test?

The Reading and Writing Sections will be combined into one ELAR section. You will not be able to take them separately. You will see both Reading and Writing questions and possibly the essay when taking the ELAR section. Your result on the ELAR section will determine if you reach the College Ready Classification in both Reading and Writing.

If I am TSIA Math complete with the current TSIA, do I have to take the new TSI 2.0 Math test?

No, if you are TSIA complete (college ready) in Math on the current TSIA you do not have to retest as long as your test scores are not older than 5 years from the date of testing.
