Exemptions and Waivers
Here is where you'll find out if your exempt from taking the TSI exam and what the waiver requirements are for dual credit students.
TSI Exemptions
You may be exempt from the TSI Exam requirement if you have recently taken an approved college assessment test such as the ACT, SAT, or STAAR. Check out the links below to see if you're exempt. We also recommend speaking with a counselor to discuss your requirements.
- Score Exempt (ACT, SAT, TAKS, STAAR, or High School Equivalency)
- Degree Exempt
- Transfer Exempt
- Veteran Exempt
- Certificate Level I Exempt
You'll need to submit all applicable official transcripts to obtain exemptions. You can learn more about submitting your transcripts on the admissions office website.
Dual Credit Waivers
High school students can be waived from taking the TSI Assessment by submitting approved placement scores. A high school student may be exempt or waived from taking the TSI Assessment by meeting one of the following requirements:
Assessment | Required Scores |

ACT PLAN^ | 23 - Composite Score with a minimum of: 19 - English Score |
ASPIRE | 435 - English / 431 - Math |
PSAT/NMSQT* | 107 - Combined score (Critical Reading & Math) with a minimum of: 50 - Critical Reading Score |
PSAT/NMSQT* | 460 - EBRW / 510 - Math |
STAAR/EOC* ALG I^ | Level 2, Score of 4000+ |
* Dual Credit Waivers expire after High School Graduation.
^ High School DC Waivers must also have a passing grade in Algebra II.
~ Mixing or combining scores is NOT allowed.
