BRAZOSPORT COLLEGE BOARD OF REGENTS REGULAR MEETING

The Brazosport College Board of Regents held its regular meeting on Monday, May 18, 2020 at 6:30 p.m.

In reports and presentations, the College Peer Recruiters, a unique College department comprised of six part-time peer recruiters that are also Brazosport College students, presented their annual report of enrollment activities for 2019-2020; Mr. Shannon Williams, AB Bernstein, provided information on the performance and allocation of the College endowment funds; Marshall Campbell, Vice President, Human Resources, presented a compensation study and analysis for fiscal year 2020, as well as recommendations for fiscal year 2021. No salary structure adjustments or step increases are being recommended at this time. The College will assess its revenue forecast to better understand the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic to the FY 21 budget prior to adding any new expenses; and President Dr. Millicent Valek provided a College Update, a COVID-19 Outlook and Regents’ Visibility during her President’s Report.

During unfinished business, the Board adapted amended Policy EFCD (LOCAL) regarding the operation of high school equivalency testing centers on College District premises. The Board also adapted amended Policy FKC (LOCAL) regarding registered student organizations.

In new business, the Board of Regents certified the election results of Jennifer Monical, Jay F. Gibson, Daniel L. Yates, and Ron Barksdale and the four regents took the Oath of Office. The Board also re-elected Carolyn Johnson and Robert Perryman as Board of Regents chair and vice chair, respectively. The chair and vice chair will serve two-year terms.

Also during new business, the Board approved renewal of property insurance coverage with McGriff, Seibels & Williams of Texas, Inc. for the 2020-2021 year. The Board also approved Community Education tuition and fees for the Summer 2020 courses.

The Board also approved employment contracts for Mr. Sunil Khanal, Mathematics faculty; Mr. Michael McIntosh, Drama faculty; Mr. Jacob Rey, Economics faculty; Ms. Tabatha Rhodes, English faculty and Dr. Cordelia Ross, English faculty.

The Board also accepted the April 2020 Financial Report, which was presented by David Marshall, Financial Services & CFO.

The next board of regents regular meeting is scheduled for Monday, June 15, 2020 at 6:30 p.m.

VACATION TIME DURING ALTERED OPERATIONS

We know that our summer vacations aren’t going to look like a typical summer, but we encourage everyone to still plan some time off to use your accrued vacation time before the end of the fiscal year. During altered operations the College is still open, and normal vacation and sick time processes still apply during this time. As a reminder, employees can only roll over up to 120 hours, so please review your time and work with your supervisor on arranging time off.

EDC VIRTUAL “COFFEE WITH COLLEAGUES” TOMORROW

The EDC’s “Coffee with Colleagues” resumes tomorrow, May 21 via Zoom. This is a great opportunity to stay connected with campus as we’re all working remotely.

With courses being moved to an online and remote format, the $40 online course fee for May minimester and Summer 2020 will be waived, but please note that all other course fees still apply.

The College is fully staffed, working remotely and closely monitoring email accounts. Plan ahead and save time by reaching out to our e-counselor services. E-counselor services are available from Monday to Thursday from 8 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. and 8 a.m. to 12 p.m. on Fridays.
