PLANNING FOR FALL SEMESTER

As we plan for the 2020 fall semester, Brazosport College will continue to have a strong focus on remote operations. Supervisors should prepare recommendations now concerning how their area will operate and what positions will be included in each phase based upon the College’s business needs. Please consider which employees can easily perform their duties and responsibilities via remote work and which employees need to be on-campus to effectively perform their work. Please also consider rotating days, split shifts, and office area configuration to create social distancing.

Once identified, supervisors should submit a written plan of operation, including the positions and names of individuals returning to campus to their Vice President and Human Resources by July 2, 2020. Employees selected to return to on-campus operations during Phase 2 will be notified no later than Monday, July 20th.

Employees asked to work on-site who have concerns about returning should contact Marshall Campbell or Mareille Rolon in Human Resources. Brazosport College will follow Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) guidance requesting flexibility and understanding by employers and employees in these circumstances. Please note that supervisors will not determine accommodations and will not ask employees about personal health or medical information. All such conversations will take place solely between the specific employee and Human Resources personnel in accordance with all applicable laws and regulations.

The College anticipates a variety of situations in which employees may request that they continue to work remotely, and the examples on the Brazosport College Phased Return document illustrate the most common situations without representing a complete list.

COURSE DELIVERY FOR FALL 2020

After careful consideration, and with guidance from the Center for Disease Control and the Texas Department of State Health Services, Brazosport College will be offering a variety of course formats for Fall 2020.

Fall courses will be delivered in one of the following formats:

  1. Face-to-Face: Traditional on-campus courses with social distancing and other safety precautions in place.
  2. Blended: Courses with both on-campus and online instruction.
  3. Scheduled Live Online: Online courses with scheduled live interaction with instructors. Student will log-in at their designated class time.
  4. Online: Online courses without scheduled live interaction with instructors.

If students have questions about their fall BC courses, want to make a change, or want to talk to someone they may email ecounselor@brazosport.edu. E-counselor services are available from Monday to Thursday from 8 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. and 8 a.m. to 12 p.m. on Fridays.

The $40 online course fee will not be charged for Summer II and Fall classes, but please note that all other course fees still apply.

DUAL CREDIT VIRTUAL INFORMATION SESSIONS

Information Sessions will be held this summer for all prospective & new Dual Credit students and their parent/guardian. These information sessions will provide an overview of the program and allow for your questions to be answered in real-time.

  • Admissions
  • Placement testing – College Readiness
  • Registration process
  • Certificate, Degree, and Core

If you’re interested in entering a dual credit program it is highly recommended that you attend the earliest available Information Session.

THE CLARION’S SUMMER CHILDREN’S SERIES

The Clarion at Brazosport College’s popular Summer Children’s Series continues this week with its online, special one-time-only performances.

This season’s lineup of summer show includes:

  • SOUL STREET: Wed., June 24 at 10 a.m.
  • SCIENCE TELLERS: “DRAGONS: RETURN OF THE ICE SORCERESS”: Wed., July 8 at 10 a.m.
  • TOM’S FUN BAND – Wed., July 15 — 10 a.m.

The Summer Children’s Series will be streamed for free exclusively on the Clarion’s website, YouTube channel and Facebook page. Each performance will feature a show at its scheduled day and time, and the Clarion will not be open for in-person audiences. All shows are appropriate for children ages 4 to 12.

GATOR MART DRIVE-THRU DISTRIBUTION TIME 

All BC students who are currently enrolled or who have been enrolled in the past year are eligible for food from Gator Mart. The Gator Mart drive-thru food distribution is on Wednesdays from 3 – 5 p.m.

  • Please bring your student ID card and Houston Food Bank card (if available).
  • Distribution will take place in the overhang area of the Sadler Health Sciences Building.
  • To protect the safety of all food recipients and staff, the following guidelines set forth by the CDC and the Houston Food Bank will be followed:
    • Drive under the Sadler Health Sciences Building overhang and stop next to a table placed in that area.
    • Pre-packed boxes and bags of groceries will be on the table.
    • Exit your car, open your trunk, and load the groceries into your trunk. Be careful not to touch the table; just touch the boxes and bags of groceries. If you accidentally touch the table, alert one of the staff and they will clean the table after you leave.
    • All staff and food recipients will maintain a six-foot distance at all times.
