JUNE 2020 BOARD MEETING SUMMARY
The Brazosport College Board of Regents held its regular meeting at 6:30 p.m. on Monday, June 15, 2020.
Board Member Robert Perryman discussed the Brazosport Foundation Fund Development report. Due to COVID-19, the Brazosport College Foundation Gator Classic presented by Freeport LNG has been postponed. The two-day event is rescheduled for October 29-30, 2020. The Blue Jacket Social will be held Thursday, October 29, 2020 at the Dow Academic Center at Brazosport College from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. The Golf Tournament will be held Friday, October 30, 2020 at the Wilderness Golf Course.
During reports & presentations, David Marshall, Vice President, Financial Services & CFO, provided a budget study as of June 4, 2020. Dr. Douglas Walcerz, Dean, Planning, Institutional Effectiveness & Research, provided information on selected measures of College performance during the quarterly report on performance.
During the President’s report, Dr. Millicent Valek, honored and expressed condolences to the family of BC faculty member, Allen Baragar. Dr. Valek thanked Dr. Douglas Walcerz for his time at Brazosport College as he moves on to future endeavors, and she welcomed Dr. Shelley Diviney as the College’s new Vice President, Academic & Student Affairs. Dr. Valek also thanked everyone involved with this year’s virtual commencement and the leadership of Tracee Watts on the successful celebration.
Dr. Valek reviewed plans for the Fall 2020 semester in light of the COVID-19 virus. There will still be a greater number of courses taught online, or in a hybrid format, for Fall 2020, with many labs continuing to be taught with social distancing practices in place. The College also has contingency plans to effectively transition back to fully online, remote modality should the pandemic spike again.
During new business, the Board approved the request to not reduce endowment account balances with scholarships for fiscal years 2020 and 2021; considered the BASF/NeuAG, LLC tax abatement modification request and authorized the President to execute the assignment; approved the custodial services contract with McLemore Building Maintenance for the period of October 1, 2020 through September 30, 2021; agreed to read and consider for adoption any necessary amendments to policies DIAA (LOCAL), FFDA (LOCAL), and FMA (LOCAL) at its August 3, 2020 meeting without a second reading at a subsequent meeting; set the public meeting for Monday, August 3, 2020, at 5:30 p.m. for the purpose of considering the 2020-2021 budget and to discuss the tax rate; set the first public hearing for Monday, August 17, 2020, at 6:30 p.m., immediately preceding the regularly scheduled Board meeting, for the purpose of considering the 2020-2021 tax rate; and set the second public hearing for Tuesday, September 8, 2020, at 5:30 p.m. for the purpose of considering the 2020-2021 tax rate.
During personnel, the Board approved the employment of Ms. Susan Lancaster as Coordinator, ACE it Program, for the remainder of the 2019-2020 academic year and the 2020-2021 academic year. The Board also approved the employment of Ms. Kamilah Campbell-Zorn as Humanities Faculty for the 2020-2021 academic year.
The next board of regents regular meeting will be held at 6:30 p.m. on Monday, August 17, 2020.

The $40 online course fee will not be charged for Summer II and Fall classes, but please note that all other course fees still apply.
