This general Information Session will provide details and answer questions about the CE Allied Health programs offered at Brazosport College, and address the requirements for enrollment and completion. This course is online with scheduled live interaction with an Instructor/Program Coordinator. Students enrolled will receive a link to access the scheduled meeting and must log-in at their designated class time.

Basic Life Support (CPR)

This course is a two-year certification in Basic Life Support (CPR) and does not include First Aid. The American Heart Association (AHA) strongly promotes knowledge and proficiency in all its courses and has developed instructional materials for this purpose. Use of these materials in an educational course does not represent course sponsorship by the AHA. Any fees charged for such a course, except for a portion of fees needed for AHA course materials, do not represent income to the AHA. Refunds can only be provided if you cancel enrollment by calling 979-230-3600 and speaking to a Registration Specialist. This is a traditional on-campus course with social distancing and other safety precautions.

Dental Assistant Online Program

When you train with Brazosport College, you can be prepared for a successful career as a dental assistant in as early as 4 months. Our partnership with Career Step provides a Dental Assistant program that will prepare you to get certified and working in the dental industry. The online program provides instructional videos, images, and quizzes to test your knowledge and retention throughout the course. This course also includes simulations, allowing you to enhance your learning experience with “hands-on” practice. Enrollment is continuously open. This is an online course without scheduled live interaction with instructor.

Human Disease and Pathophysiology

Whether you’re new to the healthcare field, looking for a health refresher, preparing for a certification exam, or simply interested in learning more about human disease, this course will be helpful to you. It provides a review of anatomy and physiology with emphasis on the human pathophysiology of common diseases of all body systems. This course will teach students to distinguish between normal and abnormal physiologic functions of all body systems; identify etiology, signs, and symptoms of diseases of all body systems; and correlate the prognosis, medical treatment, and procedures with patient morbidity and mortality. This is an online course with scheduled live interaction with an instructor. Students must log-in at their designated class time. Medical Assistant

Medical Assistants work in doctors’ offices, hospitals and medical clinics, assisting physicians by performing administrative duties and handling basic clinical tasks. The Medical Assistant program is completed in two parts. The first part includes lecture and hands-on training that will be taught in an online and face-to-face format. Please note that classes meet up to three times per week in scheduled afternoon and evening times. Upon successful completion of this first part of the program, students will enroll in the Medical Assistant Clinical Practicum (separate enrollment fee). During the practicum, students will be assigned to work in a clinical facility and receive hands-on training in the field.

Prerequisites for Clinical Practicum: At least 18 years of age with a High School Diploma or High School Equivalency (HSE), acceptable criminal background and completion of all state-required immunizations and CPR training. This is a blended course with both on-campus and online instruction. The online portion of your course will be accessible on your first class day and can be found at online.brazosport.edu.

Medical Assistant Refresher

This refresher course is intended for Medical Assistants who are interested in enhancing their current clinical skills, preparing for re-entry into the workforce, or preparing to renew an expired Medical Assistant Certification (expired within the last 2 years). Proof of successful completion of a prior Medical Assistant training program or expired MA certification is required as a prerequisite before enrolling into this course. This is an online course with scheduled live interaction with an instructor. Students must log-in at their designated class time. Certification Exam Prep: Medical Assistant

This exam preparation course will help students plan and prepare to take one of the national certification exams for Medical Assistant. Whether planning to retake an exam or taking the exam for the first-time, this course is essential. It teaches time-management skills, how to apply study techniques and offers strategies for taking a national certification exam. Clinical Skills lab practices will be minimal in this course. This is an online course with scheduled live interaction with an instructor. Students must log-in at their designated class time. Proof of successful completion of a prior Medical Assistant training program or expired MA certification is required as prerequisite before students can enroll into this Refresher program.

Phlebotomy

Phlebotomists draw blood from a patient for clinical or medical testing, transfusions or blood donations. Anyone who chooses this field should be comfortable with blood, needles, and blood vials. Students are trained to perform a variety of blood collection methods with an emphasis on safety, quality assurance, patient identification and specimen handling. This course is taught by a certified Phlebotomy Instructor in an online and face-to-face format. Upon successful completion of this course, students will enroll in the Phlebotomy Clinical Practicum (separate enrollment fee).
