Install and connect to the College's VPN

For faculty, staff, and students who are away from campus, a virtual private network (VPN) is essential for accessing on-campus remote desktops, servers or other resources.

A VPN is like a tunnel that allows Brazosport College users to access college resources securely, while prohibiting unauthorized incoming traffic. The college's VPN is called GlobalProtect and is provided through Palo Alto Networks.

How to connect to the VPN

If you already have the VPN installed on your computer, these are the steps to getting connected.

Turn on & connect to the VPN

Important: You must have GlobalProtect by Palo Alto Networks installed on your computer before you can connect to the College's VPN.

Windows 10 and 11

  1. Select the GlobalProtect icon (a globe) on the taskbar. If you don’t see one of the network icons, select the Up Arrow to see if it appears there.
  2. Enter vpn.brazosport.edu into the Portal Address field, then click Connect.
  3. Login with your Brazosport College username and password, then click Sign In.
    • For Students: Your username will be your first initial, full last name and the last 4 numbers of your BC ID.
    • For Employees: Your username will be your first initial and full last name.

MacOS

  1. Select the GlobalProtect icon (a globe) on the menu bar. On MacOS Ventura, the icon may be hidden. Minimizing your windows to see if it appears
  2. Enter vpn.brazosport.edu into the Portal Address field, then click Connect.
  3. Login with your Brazosport College username and password, then click Sign In.
    • For Students: Your username will be your first initial, full last name and the last 4 numbers of your BC ID.
    • For Employees: Your username will be your first initial and full last name.

How to install the VPN on your Windows PC or Mac

If you haven't installed the VPN on your computer, we've provided the step-by-step instructions to download and install the software.

Install the VPN

Step 1: Remove any previously installed VPN software on your computer.

Failure to remove any previously installed VPN software on your computer could cause GlobalProtect, the College's VPN, not to work.

Step 2: Install GlobalProtect by Palo Alto Networks

Visit vpn.brazosport.edu, and login in using your Brazosport College username and password.

Step 3: Download the correct software version based on your operating system

Windows 11: How to determine if you are running a 32-bit or 64-bit version of Windows

  1. Select the Start Button
  2. Select Settings > System > About
  3. At the right, under Device Specifications, see System Type.

Windows 10: How to determine if you are running a 32-bit or 64-bit version of Windows

  1. Select the Start Button
  2. Right-click Computer, then select Properties
  3. Under System, see the System Type

MacOS: There should only be one option for MacOS.

Step 4: Run the downloaded software to begin installation

Follow the prompts to install the program. If this is being installed on a college computer an administrative password is required, please contact the IT Help Desk for assistance.
