On April 9th, 2020, the U.S. Department of Education announced that institutions of higher education would be allocated funds from the Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security (CARES) Act to directly address student expenses “… related to the disruption of campus operations due to coronavirus (including eligible expenses under a student’s cost of attendance such as food, housing, course materials, technology, health care, and child care)”. Brazosport College (“BC” or “the College”) was included in the allocation. To access these funds, the College submitted a signed CARES ACT: Higher Education Emergency Relief Fund (HEERF) Certification and Agreement via Grants.gov.

This Certification and Agreement, signed by Brazosport College on April 13, 2020, requires the College to provide fifty percent (50%) of its formula grant funds for the sole and exclusive purpose to provide emergency financial aid grants to students, for expenses such as:

  • Food
  • Housing
  • Course materials
  • Technology
  • Health care
  • Child-care expenses
