Frequently Asked Questions

Will there be an in-person commencement?

Unfortunately, due to the COVID19 pandemic, we were forced to postpone our in-person ceremonies. We are excited to announce Brazosport College will hold a virtual commencement celebration on Saturday, June 13, 2020 at 10:00 a.m.! All students earning degrees at the end of the Spring 2020 semester will be celebrated and featured during our virtual ceremony!

How does a virtual commencement work?

The virtual ceremony will be produced prior to June 13, so no one will actually be gathering or participating live the day of the event. The virtual celebration will include special videos and messages to our graduates, their families and friends. We will also hear from Brazosport College President, Dr. Millicent Valek, members of the Board of Regents, as well as staff, faculty and community well-wishers.

How do we watch commencement?

The ceremony will be streamed online. A link to the ceremony is at the top of this page. We will celebrate and feature all students that earned certificates and degrees at the end of the Spring 2020 semester. Brazosport College invites everyone to celebrate its 2020 graduates during a virtual commencement ceremony at 10 a.m. on Saturday, June 13.

Still want to participate in an in-person ceremony?

If an in-person ceremony is still something you’d like to participate in, all 2020 graduates can participate in the May 2021 ceremony.

Just let us know you’re interested using the Reminder Form, and we’ll put you down for next year!

Will there be a guest speaker?

The virtual event will also feature a commencement address by guest speaker, Chris Witte, BASF Corporation Senior Vice President, Freeport Site. Witte, who earned a Bachelor in Chemical Engineering and an MBA from Louisiana State University, joined BASF in 1987 and has held numerous leadership positions within the company. As senior vice president, Witte is currently responsible for the BASF site in Freeport, one of the corporation‘s largest North American manufacturing locations. In this role, he oversees the daily operations of 26 plants that manufacture 25 different products. Additionally, Witte leads BASF's Smart Manufacturing 4.0 activities in North America. He is also the executive sponsor for BASF‘s North American Veterans Employee Group. Witte and his wife, Susan, have been married 28 years, and have four children, all of whom attended community college.

Who is producing the virtual commencement?

Our online graduation will be produced by VEGO Pictures from Los Angeles. VEGO Pictures is a full-service digital production and marketing company from Los Angeles, with experience on “American Idol,” “The Golden Globe Awards,” “Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade,” and many more. This year’s event could be Brazosport College’s most-viewed commencement ever!

Can I download a recording of the ceremony?

Once the virtual event is finished, all graduates will have the opportunity to download the entire video. Though it will be a different experience, we hope it will be one you will have for a lifetime to cherish and look back on.
