Dr. David Hinds

The son of high school educators, David Hinds grew up in West Texas and the Hill Country.  As a young man, when he wasn't working or in school, he could be found playing sports, on the river, or gathering with his friends. He met his wife, Kim, in College and they have two adult daughters, Kari and Ellen.

David's professional career began as a computer science teacher at San Marcos High School.  He then moved to the public sector working at Electronic Data Systems in Plano.  In 1990, he began working at Brazosport College where he served as faculty member and Division Chair for over twenty years.  David served as Intern to the Chancellor at San Jacinto College during his doctoral program, after which he accepted the position of Senior Vice President of Instructional Affairs at Allegany College of Maryland, in Cumberland.  He then returned to Texas to serve as President of Victoria College from 2015 to 2020 and now works as a consultant to the Texas Association of Community College.

As a leader and as a product, himself, of community colleges, David is most passionate about finding better ways to serve students, creating a positive workplace, spurring economic development, and promoting community colleges whenever given the opportunity, whether within the local community or with legislators.  He has served on multiple local and state level boards and sees this activity as crucial in building the relationships required to keep the college relevant for its students and communities.

Working full time through each of his degrees, David earned his doctorate from the University of Texas in Higher Education Administration focusing on Community College Leadership; an MBA from the University of Houston; and a Bachelor of Science degree from Texas State.

David and Kim both enjoy going to the beach, camping, traveling, watching movies, and entertaining at home.  Kim taught for several years at Brazoswood High School, has a nutrition background, and enjoys photography.  David enjoys playing golf and takes any opportunity to repair or build something.  He is excited about the possibility of returning to Brazosport College, reuniting with the community, and is ready to take on what he believes will be the most fulfilling work of his career.
