Pulitzer-winning American journalist, investigative reporter and best-selling author Bill Dedman recently appeared at the Brazosport College Foundation’s second Women’s Lecture Luncheon Series event of the year.

During his presentation at the College’s Dow Academic Center, Dedman explored the fascinating tale of reclusive heiress Huguette Clark, a story he co-authored with Paul Clark Newell, Jr. in the book, “Empty Mansions: The Mysterious Life of Huguette Clark and the Spending of a Great American Fortune.”

A No. 1 “New York Times” bestseller, “Empty Mansions” was named one of the best nonfiction books of the year at Goodreads, Amazon and Barnes & Noble, and was on the bestseller list in Los Angeles for 35 weeks. In 2018, the book was optioned for a feature film. Dedman also signed copies of the book following the luncheon.

Dedman introduced the public to Huguette Clark and her empty mansions through his compelling series of narratives for NBC, which became the most popular feature in the history of its news website, topping 110 million page views.

Dedman received the 1989 Pulitzer Prize in investigative reporting while writing for “The Atlanta Journal-Constitution.” After eight years at NBC News, he moved to “Newsday,” the newspaper and news website on Long Island, N.Y. He has written for “The New York Times,” “The Washington Post” and “The Boston Globe.”

The Women’s Lecture Luncheon Series is a series of events intended to help promote cultural enrichment for all women hosted by the Brazosport College Foundation.

This year’s Women’s Lecture Luncheon Series has its third and final event scheduled, with one of the U.S. Secret Service’s first woman agents, Kathryn Childers, scheduled on April 2.
