Brazosport College & Community Band to perform free concert on Nov. 4
The Brazosport College Department of Music will host an afternoon concert performance by the Brazosport College and Community Band on Sunday, Nov. 4 at The Clarion at Brazosport College. The band, which will be under the direction of Richard Birk, will begin the performance at 2:30 p.m.
The performance is being offered at no cost to the public.
“Our program will include a wide variety of music, ranging from American marches to Hollywood soundtracks to 16th-century dance music, as well as music from around the globe including England, Russia and Latin America,” Birk said. “There should be a little something for everyone. I do hope the community will come join us for a wonderful afternoon of music.”
Selections scheduled to be performed include:
“Cyrus the Great” - an energetic circus march by Karl L. King
“Brook Green Suite” – a collection of English folk songs by the British composer Gustav Holst
“Russian Folk Song Suite” – three folk songs by Russian composer Anatoly Lyadov
“Court Festival” – a suite in the style of instrumental dance music of the late 16th and 17th centuries by William P. Latham
“Star Wars Saga” – a collection of memorable themes from John Williams’ “Star Wars” soundtracks
“Chisholm Trail” – an original work for band by Carl Strommen that paints a musical portrait of the legendary cattle drives along the Chisholm Trail
“Dos Danzas Latinas” – two contrasting dances, a habañera and a rumba, beautifully scored for concert band by André Waignein
“A Kansas Two-Step” – a lively march originally performed by the John Philip Sousa band and composed by his most famous trombone soloist Arthur Pryor
