The Brazosport College Writing Center was recently selected as a featured center for the International Writing Center Association’s (ICWA) social media spotlight. The writing center and its consultants are located in the Student Success Center on the second floor of the Brazosport College main building.

The Brazosport College Writing Center was recently selected as a featured center for the International Writing Center Association’s (IWCA) social media spotlight.

With its selection as a featured school, the BC Writing Center was provided an opportunity to tell the international writing center community about its staff, students and school.

BC Writing Center Director Dr. April Julier was the first to learn of the selection as a featured school.

“My goal as the Brazosport College Writing Center Director is to create and maintain a strong writing center here at Brazosport College,” Julier said. “Part of this work is local and involves one-on-one sessions and workshops with students and faculty. Another part of this work involves sharing what we do and how we do it with the larger writing center community. This IWCA Spotlight gives us that opportunity for recognition and allows us to form collaborative partnerships with other writing centers across the country.”

The spotlight post highlighted the BC Writing Center’s “vibrant online and face-to-face tutor education program” and its collaborations within the College. The IWCA also made note of the fact that the writing center’s consultants range from 17 to 70 years old.

This accolade comes a month after three BC tutors were selected to present at the National Conference for Peer Tutoring in Writing.

“This was a great opportunity for the BC Writing Center to be recognized in the writing center community,” Julier said. “Coming off a well-received conference presentation at the National Conference for Peer Tutors of Writing, this recognition from IWCA helps us maintain our momentum.”

One of the goals of the BC Writing Center is to create and facilitate a culture of literacy at Brazosport College through a life-long literacy education process. To learn more about the BC Writing Center, call  (979) 230-3174.
