Brazosport College welding student Adrian Ballew recently took top honors at the 2019 ABC Local Craft Championships. Ballew, who represented KCG Industrial, will next participate in the ABC National Craft Championships, which will be held in March in Nashville, Tenn. Ballew is the first Brazosport College student since 1998 to qualify for the ABC national welding competition. The ABC Local Craft Championships featured qualified students from the Brazosport College welding and millwright programs, with competitors having to take both written and hands-on performance testing. Finishing second in the welding competition was Devan West of Freeport Welding. Millwright competitors included Greg Gatrell of RPM Services (first place) and Steven Hester and Michael Clinton of McGill Maintenance Partnership, Ltd. in second and third places. Former millwright Craft Champions Cody Bernard, Ashley Agbe and Chuck Seidler judged the hands-on millwright competition, while Tommy Owens of BASF judged the hands-on welding competition. Competitors were recommended by Brazosport College instructors Mic Comley and Ken Kaspar.
