BC Phi Theta Kappa chapter earns high honors
Brazosport College’s Psi Psi Chapter of Phi Theta Kappa recently attended the PTK Catalyst Conference in Kansas City, Missouri and its officer team was named a Top 30 Distinguished Chapter officer team out of 1,300 chapters worldwide. BC Psi Psi chapter officer team members included, from left, Laura Figueroa, Celeste Montalvo, Laura Albarado, Christy Chizer and Tonya Lavallias.
It’s been a busy spring for Brazosport College’s Psi Psi Chapter of Phi Theta Kappa, as the local chapter brought home a multitude of awards from recent conferences, including being named one of the top officer teams in the world.
Among the highlights, the BC Psi Psi Chapter attended the PTK Catalyst Conference in Kansas City, Missouri, where the BC officer team was named one of 30 Distinguished Chapter officer teams out of 1,300 chapters worldwide.
Members of the BC officer team were Laura Figueroa, Celeste Montalvo, Laura Albarado, Christy Chizer and Tonya Lavallias. Cassie Bruner and Alicia Hodge were co-advisors for the BC Psi Psi chapter.
Distinguished Chapter officer teams are nominated by the chapter advisor and are chosen based on the team’s scholarship, leadership, service and fellowship.
“This officer team was so deserving of this Distinguished Officer team award,” Bruner said. “They put so much passion and thought into everything they did. Alicia and I were happy to have such a great team to nominate for this remarkable award and I have no doubt they will continue doing great things as they continue with their academic and career goals.”
A month earlier, the BC Psi Psi Chapter attended the Texas Regional Conference in Houston and again earned its share of accolades.
Some of the honors included being named a Top Texas Chapter, a Five-star chapter and an Award of Merit for a 2017 College Project. Psi Psi member Malissa Brown was named a Distinguished Chapter Member, while BC Director of Student Life Kelli Forde Spiers was inducted into the Texas Hall of Honor for College Administrators.
