Thu Apr 26, 2018

The Brazosport College Department of Music will present an Americana concert featuring the college’s Chamber Choir and Civic Chorus at 7:30 p.m. on Saturday, April 28. The choir and chorus will be under the direction of Dr. Jane Becker and Chris Hutchison.

The performance is free and will be held at The Clarion at Brazosport College, located just east of the main building at 500 College Drive, Lake Jackson.

“Speaking on behalf of Dr. Becker and Mr. Hutchison, we think the community will really enjoy an evening of great American music,” said Brazosport College Coordinator of Music Richard Birk. “The concert will include music from early American composers, as well as folk tunes and spirituals. It should be great fun for all.”

Selections scheduled to be performed by the Chamber Choir and Civic Chorus on April 28 include:

Great American Composers:
“By the Waters of Babylon,” by William Billings
“Away From The Roll of The Sea,” by MacGillivray
“Sure On This Shining Night,” by Lauridsen
“Child of Tomorrow,” by Patterson

Folk Songs:
“The Drunken Sailor”
“The Streets of Laredo”
“Texas, Our Texas”

Spirituals and Gospel Songs:
