Brazosport College student and scholarship recipient Stephanie Reyes talks about how a scholarship has assisted her during the Brazosport College Foundation’s Scholarship Soiree at the Dow Academic Center at Brazosport College.

The Brazosport College Foundation recently hosted its biennial Scholarship Soirée, with attendees enjoying a black-tie-themed celebration filled with fun and good times. More importantly, however, was the amount of money the event raised for student scholarships.

The “Black Tie and Bubbly” event at the Dow Academic Center at Brazosport College brought in more than $300,000 that will be used toward scholarships through the Brazosport College Foundation.

The Soirée raised a bulk of its money through gifts from community members, local businesses and a live auction.

The Soirée was underwritten by The Dow Chemical Company. Other sponsors included Olin Corporation; Chevron Phillips Chemical Company; MEGlobal; George & Anita Rau and Bill & Diane Tasto; Freeport LNG; Natalie Broaddus, Candidate for Judge County Court at Law No. 2; Cordoba Law Firm; CHI St. Luke’s Health Brazosport; Texas Gulf Bank; Excel; Brazosport College Executive Council; KM&L, LLC; Birdsong Real Estate; Brazosport Tire; Charles Johnson Law Firm; Blue Sky Knowledge; Brazos Pilots Association; Go 23 Transport; Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Celebration Committee of Brazoria County; and George & Janis Warny.

The event was chaired by David and Jaimee Howarth, while Fernando and Fernanda Signorini were the honorary chairs.

This was the Brazosport College Foundation’s sixth biennial Scholarship Soirée. Since the event’s inception in 2011, more than $1.8 million has been raised for BC student scholarships.

One of the many students attending BC on a scholarship, Stephanie Reyes, spoke about how her college education has been assisted by a scholarship through the BC Foundation.

Guests at the Scholarship Soirée also enjoyed a multitude of other activities, including a live performance by the Royal Dukes Band; fine dining and plenty of dancing. The Soirée also featured a raffle with a lucky guest winning a weekend in Charleston, South Carolina.
