Jumpstart program honors graduates with drive-thru ceremony

Brazosport College graduated 60 students from its Jumpstart program in 2020, with 33 students completing the Spring semester program, followed by 27 graduates in the Fall.

Among the graduates this year were 20 electricians, 11 pipefitters and 29 office administrative professionals. The students were recently honored with an outdoor drive-thru graduation that provided an opportunity for students to receive their certificates in person.

Electrical graduates included Hikmet Akcay, Damien Gregory, Alejandro Grijalva Gallegos, Andrew Horne, Buck Krenek, Juan Martinez, Amarani Morales, Anabel Nava, Jose Rios Jr., Javier Serna, Charlene Turk, Billy Webster, Carlos Carrasco, Jeffery Collard, Sofornia Dunn, Darrell Flores, Annie Horton, Michael Miller, Max Svetlik and Derrick Walton.

Andrew Anderson, Alex Ramirez, Daniel Rios, Joshua Strickland, Lionel Adams-Matthews, Anthony Elizondo, Julia Nicholson, Xavier Parks, Chelsea Therrien, Charles Walton Jr. and Charles Walton III graduated from the pipefitting program.

Office Administration graduates included Shelonda Cannon, Laura Crawford, Katrina Dawson, Amy Furrow, Chantelle Hagaman, Kevin Kristof, Christina Martinez, Sofia Mosqueda, Nohemi Salinas, Mary Ellen Villarreal, Kara Ware, Kortny Barba, Monica Bejarano, Shelby Cason, Joycelyn Colley, Elizabeth Favela, Griselda Flores, Maria Garcia, Kiana Henderson, Katherine Jackson, Diana Lopez, Athenna Newton, Colleen Ortiz, Jennifer Pennington, Valentina Ramos, Casandra Salas, Rosario Santiago, Alexandra Santoya and Bettyjoe Worthen.

Registration is ongoing for the 2021 Spring semester Jumpstart program. Jumpstart provides the job training needed to enter a high-demand, high-wage career and are free for qualified students.

The pipefitting and electrical Jumpstart courses are nine-week programs that are conducted from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Monday through Thursday, and from 8:30 to noon on Friday. The program focuses on intensive, hands-on training that is designed to help one enter a new career in a short amount of time. The office administration Jumpstart program is a 12-week program that is conducted from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Monday through Thursday, and from 8:30 a.m. to noon on Friday.

The new training sessions for pipefitters and electricians begin Thursday, Jan. 21 and run through Thursday, April 1. Orientation is scheduled from 8 to 10 a.m. on Jan. 20. Training sessions for the office administration courses begin Monday, Jan. 25 and run through Thursday, April 22. Orientation is scheduled from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. on Jan. 20.
