Brazosport College nursing graduate Rita Orta in Times Square

Brazosport College honors and salutes healthcare and medical personnel around the world, including our own graduates, many of whom are on the front lines fighting the COVID-19 Coronavirus pandemic.

One of our nursing graduates, Rita Orta, is currently helping patients in New York City, which has more COVID-19 cases than any other city in the world.

Rita, a 2016 Brazosport College LVN graduate and a 2017 LVN to ADN bridge program graduate, recently joined hundreds of other nurses in answering a call for help from our nation’s most populated city.

“When I saw the opportunity to help New York and all of the amazing nurses, I didn’t have to think twice about it,” Rita said. “Within 48 hours, I flew out along with 500 other nurses and joined my team.

“The front-line healthcare workers here are the strongest and bravest people I know,” she added. “I know we will all learn and grow from this experience and make lifelong friends, as well.”

Rita is only one of the countless heroes around the world who are placing themselves in harm’s way to help others in need.
