BC Drama Department seeking actors for first play of Fall semester

Thu Oct 8, 2020

Live theater is returning to Brazosport College and actors are needed.

The Brazosport College Drama Department is currently holding auditions for its first play of the 2020 Fall semester, “Rogues’ Gallery.” Audition readings will be submitted and accepted online through Oct. 18. All roles are available, and students and community members are invited to audition.

“Rogues’ Gallery” is a not-yet-published collection of monologues from the imagination of Pulitzer Prize-winning author John Patrick Shanley (“Doubt,” “Prodigal Son,” “Moonstruck”) that delves into the allure of bad behavior and the absurdity of being human.

Featuring 10 magnetic characters and 10 bizarre, explosive and darkly humorous stories, “Rogues’ Gallery” is an ideal show for today’s social-distancing guidelines. Actors do not come into contact with each other onstage, and rehearsals will be held with one actor at a time. Limited group rehearsals will include a read-through and tech/dress rehearsals. Brazosport College’s social distancing guidelines will be in effect during all rehearsals.

The show will play in front of a small audience and will be live-streamed. Rehearsals are Monday through Friday evenings beginning Oct. 26, with performances running Nov. 12 and 13 at the College’s outdoor Shakespeare in the Glen Theatre.

To audition, actors are asked to record a monologue from the script and upload a link to the recording. Those auditioning should not memorize the monologues. It also should be noted that “Rogues’ Gallery” is intended for mature audiences.
