The Brazosport College Library and Office of Student Life have announced a new lineup of events to be featured in this Fall semester’s popular BC Discovery Series.

The goal of the BC Discovery Series is to engage the College and community in various educational and interesting topics with faculty members. Consisting of three different events in a relaxed environment, the Discovery Series provides faculty and staff an opportunity to present their academic interests to students and peers through fun, interactive workshops.

The Discovery Series kicks off on Tuesday, Sept. 21 when BC staff member Shelley Moody provides an introduction to a visual style of note-taking called Sketchnoting. In her session, Moody will explain how to turn regular notes into memorable visuals, which improve comprehension and retention. No artistic abilities are required and book prizes will be given out during this event.

Next up on the calendar and just in time for Halloween, Student Success Center Tutor Coordinator Rebecca Goins and the BC Math Center attempt to make mathematics a little less scary through its session titled “Demystifying Math” on Tuesday, Oct. 19.

Finally, the Fall semester’s Discovery Series comes to a close on Monday, Nov. 8 with “My Money Check-Up.” During this event, BC Student Services Financial Wellness Coordinator Kathrina St. Flavin explores five questions that will help everyone understand their financial health, along with the importance of setting goals.

All Discovery Series events are from 12 to 1 p.m. are held in the BC Library. For more information about the 2021 BC Fall Discovery Series, email patrick.sifuentes@brazosport.edu.
