Rep. Cody Vasut to speak at Brazosport College commencement ceremonies
Brazosport College is pleased to announce Texas State Representative Cody Vasut as its 2022-23 Commencement speaker on Saturday, May 13 at the Dow Academic Center.
Texas State Representative Vasut, who will speak at both ceremonies, represents Texas House District 25, which is comprised of southern and western Brazoria County.
Vasut is an eighth-generation Texan and fifth-generation resident of Angleton. He has devoted himself to serving his community to ensure it remains a great place to live, work, and raise a family.
He graduated summa cum laude from Texas A&M University with a B.B.A. and M.S. in Management and was honored to serve as the 37th Speaker of the Student Senate his senior year. Vasut went on to graduate summa cum laude and valedictorian from the University of Houston Law Center with a Juris Doctorate.
For more than a decade, he has worked as an attorney, representing a variety of businesses in oil and gas, personal injury defense, employment, and theft of trade secret litigation across the United States. Cody previously served as President of the Brazoria County Bar Association and is a Texas Bar Foundation Fellow.
Vasut attended Brazosport College and founded a college ministry, Revive Young Adult Fellowship, which has ministered to hundreds of young adults at BC and throughout the area for more than 11 years.
In 2016, Vasut was elected to the Angleton City Council, where he served for four years. He also currently serves on the Board of Directors for the Pregnancy Help Center of Brazosport.
Cody and his wife, Kate, have three children, Sparrow, Lily and William. They attend Second Baptist Church in Angleton, where he serves as a lay preacher and drummer in the praise band.
Two commencement ceremonies will be held, the first at 10 a.m. followed by another ceremony at 2 p.m.
The 10 a.m. commencement is for Associate of Arts (AA), Associate of Science (AS) and Associate of Arts in Teaching (AAT) graduates, while the 2 p.m. commencement will be for Bachelor of Applied Technology (BAT), Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) and Associate of Applied Science (AAS) graduates.
