College & Community Band to perform May 1 at the Clarion
The Brazosport College Department of Music will host an evening concert performance by the College and Community Band at 7:30 p.m. on Monday, May 1.
The performance will be offered at no cost to the public at The Clarion at Brazosport College. This will be the College & Community Band’s final performance of the 2023 Spring semester.
Selections scheduled to be performed on May 1 include:
“Armenian Rhapsody” — Bold statements and driving rhythmic figures are combined and contrasted in a setting that uses five traditional Armenian melodies.
“After the Cakewalk” — This fun ragtime tune is one of Robert Nathaniel Dett’s early pieces and is adapted for a new generation of musicians and listeners.
“Children’s March — A jaunty and delightful classic full of whimsical rhythms and unique tonal colors.
“Funiculi, Funicula” — With the feel of a classic European concert march, this popular Neapolitan song is a true crowd-pleaser.
“Danse Bohemien” —Through lively rhythms and dynamic contrasts, energy bursts through this exhilarating piece from start to finish.
“Platte River Hoedown” — This bright, energetic and upbeat piece represents a good-natured “hoedown” celebration.
“Over the Rainbow” — This timeless classic, immortalized by Judy Garland in “The Wizard of Oz,” is one of the most popular songs of all time.
“Dos Danzas Latinas” — Based on a habanera rhythm, the music builds and accelerates into a wild and exciting rumba, complete with colorful percussion writing.
“Abracadabra” — A sense of mystery pervades in this piece that is at once playful and serious, innocent and mischievous.
