Wed Apr 26, 2023

The Brazosport College Department of Music will host an evening concert performance by the College and Community Band at 7:30 p.m. on Monday, May 1.

The performance will be offered at no cost to the public at The Clarion at Brazosport College. This will be the College & Community Band’s final performance of the 2023 Spring semester.

Selections scheduled to be performed on May 1 include:

“Armenian Rhapsody” — Bold statements and driving rhythmic figures are combined and contrasted in a setting that uses five traditional Armenian melodies.

“After the Cakewalk” — This fun ragtime tune is one of Robert Nathaniel Dett’s early pieces and is adapted for a new generation of musicians and listeners.

“Children’s March — A jaunty and delightful classic full of whimsical rhythms and unique tonal colors.

“Funiculi, Funicula” — With the feel of a classic European concert march, this popular Neapolitan song is a true crowd-pleaser.

“Danse Bohemien” —Through lively rhythms and dynamic contrasts, energy bursts through this exhilarating piece from start to finish.

“Platte River Hoedown” — This bright, energetic and upbeat piece represents a good-natured “hoedown” celebration.

“Over the Rainbow” — This timeless classic, immortalized by Judy Garland in “The Wizard of Oz,” is one of the most popular songs of all time.

“Dos Danzas Latinas” — Based on a habanera rhythm, the music builds and accelerates into a wild and exciting rumba, complete with colorful percussion writing.

“Abracadabra” — A sense of mystery pervades in this piece that is at once playful and serious, innocent and mischievous.
