Brazosport College to offer new sociology, drama courses

Brazosport College’s Division of Communications, Fine Arts and Humanities is introducing three new courses in the Spring 2023 semester aimed at students interested in drama or sociology.

Two of the classes — Film Appreciation and Voice for the Actor — are centered around those with an interest in cinema or the stage, while another course — Minority Studies — is focused on diversity and minority-majority history and culture.

All three classes currently have open seats and students can either register online at their convenience or visit the college during normal business hours.

FILM APPRECIATION (DRAM 2366)

Professor: Marc Diefenderfer

Class delivery: Fully face-to-face, on-campus class with online support

Description: This course surveys and analyzes cinema, including history, film techniques, production procedures and selected motion pictures. Students will also learn about the cinema’s impact on and its reflection of society.

VOICE FOR THE ACTOR: VOICE ACTING (DRAM 2336)

Professor: Michael McIntosh

Class delivery: Fully face-to-face, on-campus class with online support

Description: This class focuses on the development of voice-acting technique, including animation, industrial and commercial. Students will focus on principles, practices and awareness, relaxation, freedom, flexibility and expressiveness in the actor’s vocal instrument. No singing.  

MINORITY STUDIES (SOCI 2319)

Professor: Gail Steele

Class delivery: Online without scheduled live interaction

Description: This course studies minority-majority group relations, addressing their historical, cultural, social, economic and institutional development in the United States. Both sociological and social psychological levels of analysis will be employed to discuss issues, including experiences of minority groups within the context of their cultural heritage and tradition, as well as that of the dominant culture.
