The Clarion to celebrate 10 years with all-star lineup of artists
The 2015-2016 Clarion Performance Season will celebrate its tenth year of presenting the world's finest performing artists with another all-star lineup of concerts.
This season, Clarion audiences will enjoy a wide spectrum of musical expertise, including Lyle Lovett and John Hiatt, Christopher Cross, Wayne Bergeron and Branford Marsalis, among many others.
Opening the new season, the Clarion is going back to its beginning. Lovett, who performed the venue’s first show 10 years ago, will return on Oct. 30 alongside masterful singer, songwriter and lyricist, John Hiatt.
Lovett’s uncompromising musicality and Hiatt’s soul-stirring lyrics will be combined to create an unforgettable evening, as two of America's most admired singer-songwriters turn the Clarion stage into their front porch for a rare and intimate acoustic evening, swapping stories and songs from throughout their incredible careers.
That's only the beginning of this season's list of Clarion performers, though.
On Nov. 5, the Clarion will present some of the best children's music of the past 30 years with Justin Roberts and The Not Ready for Naptime Players.
Roberts is truly one of the "all-stars" of the indie family music scene. With a Grammy-nomination, numerous other national awards and recognition, and a devoted fan base, Roberts and The Not Ready for Naptime Players dish out unexpectedly intelligent and whimsically rocking music for kids and their parents.
The music continues on Nov. 20 with one of the most in-demand trumpet players in the world, Wayne Bergeron. Many may not recognize his name, but most people have been listening to him for years.
Bergeron has recorded with some of the greatest musical artists of all-time, including Ray Charles, Natalie Cole, Green Day, Beyoncé, Michael Bubble, Josh Groban and Celine Dion, to name a few. He has also performed on 300-plus television and motion picture soundtracks. A partial list of film credits include "Toy Story 3," "Despicable Me," "G-Force," "Star Trek," "Marley & Me," "Superman Returns," "Pirates of the Caribbean 1, 2, and 3," "Ratatouille," "Ice Age 2" and "The Hunchback of Notre Dame.”
Ending the year, hitmaker Christopher Cross will bring plenty of holiday cheer to the Clarion on Dec. 4. With 10 Top 40 hits and five Grammy Awards, Cross is truly a superstar. He continues to delight audiences performing his hits songs "Sailing," "Arthur's Theme," "Ride Like the Wind," "Never Be the Same" and many others.
The New Year starts with the very best in jazz with Billy Stritch. On Jan. 16, Stritch appears as special guest soloist with our own Brazosport Jazz Orchestra. The jazz music continues with the legendary Branford Marsalis Quartet on Feb. 5.
A month later on March 4, aspiring classical music artist from around the United States will come to The Clarion for a live performance and broadcast recording of National Public Radio’s "From The Top" starring Christopher O’Riley.
Also in March is Steve Lippia starting in "Simply Sinatra." Lippia performs Sinatra’s greatest hits with the Brazosport Symphony Orchestra on March 19.
On April 15 is Third Coast Percussion. Hailed by "The New Yorker" as "vibrant" and "superb," Third Coast Percussion explores and expands the extraordinary sonic possibilities of the percussion repertoire, delivering exciting performances for audiences of all music tastes.
The final show of the season is a local favorite, the Blue Water Highway Band on April 29. The band, which features a couple of Lake Jackson-born musicians, will perform a benefit concert for the College’s "Spirit of Music Fund.”
