“Community College Day in Austin was an eye opener for me as a student,” said BC student Christy Chizer. “I learned exactly what our school legislators do and how important their decisions can either help us, or affect us. I am so grateful I had the chance to experience what goes on from the inside.
“Now I know who to contact if I have issues with my financial aid or transferring to another college,” she added. “Our district legislator, Dennis Bonnen, was even kind enough to sit down with Brazosport College students and answer any questions or concerns we had.”
During the visit, students talked to local legislatures, including State Representative Bonnen and Patrick Philpot, policy analyst for State Senator Larry Taylor. Tours of the Capitol building were also provided.
