The Brazosport College Department of Music will present a President’s Day concert featuring the College and Community Band on Feb. 17 at The Clarion at Brazosport College.
The band will be under the direction of Richard Birk and the concert begins at 7:30 p.m. The performance is free to the public.
Retired BC history professor Dr. Paul Pedisich will narrate the concert and BC percussion instructor Charles Fricker will be guest conductor on two selections.
"Our program will include American marches, musical tributes to Lincoln and Washington and iconic American music,” Birk said. “I hope the community will come join us as we celebrate President’s Day.”
Selections scheduled to be performed on February 17 include:
George Washington’s Birthday Party – a two-step published in 1899 by legendary march composer C.L. Barnhouse
My Pals – an original march by community band member George St. George honoring his grandchildren
Lincoln – John Williams’ theme music to the Steven Spielberg motion picture of the same name
With Malice Toward None – a musical tribute to Abraham Lincoln that includes “Battle Hymn of the Republic,” “Battle Cry of Freedom,” “Dixie” and “Aura Lee”
George Washington Bicentennial March – John Philip Sousa’s classic march
Satchmo! – a tribute to Louis Armstrong that includes “What a Wonderful World,” “When the Saints Go Marching In,” “St. Louis Blues” and “Hello, Dolly!”
Screamers – a medley of circus march themes that includes “Entry of the Gladiators,” “The Circus Bee,” “Bombasto” and “Barnum and Bailey’s Favorite”
