Brazosport College is introducing a couple of new writing courses next semester. Better yet, these classes are expected to be just as interesting as they are educational.
Beginning in the spring 2014 semester, BC Instructor of English Dr. Chun Lee will be teaching classes on two of his passions: graphic novels and creative writing.
Dr. Lee, a recent addition to the BC staff, believes both courses will be unique additions to the school’s selection of classes.
In the graphic novels class, which focuses on the comic book medium, students will learn the history of the form, along with studying and discussing literary examples of graphic novels, such as Watchmen, Maus and The Dark Knight Returns.
“Comic books have been a little neglected in the past, but they are beginning to jump into the mainstream,” Dr. Lee said. “It’s pairing up the reading language with the visual language and it’s well worth studying about”
Dr. Lee’s graphic novels course is listed in the BC schedule as ENGL 2343, Forms of Lit II (Graphic Novels). The class will meet from 6 to 9 p.m. on Tuesdays.
Another class expected to draw interest this spring is Dr. Lee’s creative writing course.
The creative writing class focuses on various writing forms, including poetry, fiction, non-fiction and much more. The course is designed to nurture creativity, with students encouraged to express themselves through the written word.
“This is a class to enjoy experimenting and getting in touch with our artistic sides,” Lee said.
The creative writing course is listed as ENGL 2343, Creative Writing I, and will meet from 6 to 9 p.m. on Mondays.
Pre-Priority Registration for the spring 2014 semester at Brazosport College began November 4. Open registration starts December 2.
