Local children earn spots in Klassical Kids Concert
Auditions for the 2014 Klassical Kids were recently held, with eight young musicians selected to participate in this year’s concert on Feb. 9.
Applicants chosen for this year’s performance were Lake Jackson Intermediate students Maggie Yang (piano), Yamil Lopez-Ruiz (marimba) and Vivie Tran (piano); Clute Intermediate student Jessica Clayton (vocalist); and Brazoswood High School students Mayur Aggarwal (piano), Daniel Ripplinger (trombone), Caleb Bradford (piano) and Katherine Leidlein (vocalist).
Brazosport area music students ages 8 to 18 were eligible to compete for a spot in the Klassical Kids Concert. The Feb. 9 concert will be at 2:30 p.m. in the concert hall at The Clarion at Brazosport College.
Sponsored by the Brazosport College Department of Music, the Klassical Kids Concert was modeled after the NPR program “From the Top” hosted by concert pianist Christopher O’Riley, who will be appearing in the Clarion’s Guest Artist Series on April 5.
Developed to spotlight some of the area’s talented student musicians, applicants of all instruments and voice parts, and cities from Angleton, Brazoria, Clute, Freeport, Lake Jackson, Richwood, Sweeny and West Columbia were encouraged by their school music teachers to audition.
Participants will work with Brazosport College music faculty in preparation for the concert, which is free and open to the public.
