Judge Marc Holder to speak at BC Commencement
Brazosport College is pleased to recognize Distinguished Alumnus Judge Marc Holder as its 2015-16 Spring Commencement speaker.
Brazosport College’s Spring Commencement is scheduled for Saturday, May 7 at the Dow Academic Center. Two commencement ceremonies will be held, the first at 10 a.m. followed by another ceremony at 2 p.m.
The 10 a.m. commencement is for Bachelor of Applied Technology (BAT) and Associate of Applied Science (AAS) graduates, while the 2 p.m. Commencement will be for Associate of Arts (AA), Associate of Science (AS) and Associate of Arts in Teaching (AAT) graduates.
The Honorable Judge Holder will speak at both ceremonies.
Holder graduated from Brazosport High School in 1973 and Brazosport College in 1975 before moving on to the University of Houston, where he graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science in 1977. From there he attended South Texas School of Law and graduated Magna Cum Laude in 1982.
It was during his time at South Texas College of Law that he met his wife, Terri. After earning his law degree, the Holders moved back to Brazoria County, where he practiced law as a licensed attorney for more than 20 years. In 2002, he was elected Judge, County Court at Law #2 in Brazoria County and has been reelected three times, in 2006, 2010, and 2014. His wife is also a Brazoria County judge.
Holder is also known for the time he’s spent working within the community in which he lives. Among his community service projects are Rotary International and the Angleton Rotary Club, the Boys & Girls Club of Brazoria County, UIL softball umpiring, D.A.RE., Junior Achievement, The Brazosport Area, Alvin-Manvel, Angleton, Brazoria, West Columbia and Pearland chambers of commerce, and the Red Cross. Holder is also a member of Second Baptist Church of Angleton for over 34 years where he has served, or currently serves, as a Sunday School Teacher, a Deacon, a Mission Committee member, and singer in the praise team.
Holder was named a Brazosport College Distinguished Alumnus in 2011. Other Distinguished Alumni include Harry Koester Jr., Robert Garcia, James Brown, Shane Pirtle, Lucilla Henderson, Shawn Baker, Allyn Noblitt, Debra Grandjean, Stacey Nolan, and Al Olvera.
