Jazz Band to perform at Kemah Boardwalk

The Brazosport College Jazz Band, under the direction of Richard Birk, will perform with noted Houston vocalist/bassist Keith Vivens at noon on Sunday, March 26 at the Kemah Boardwalk’sMain Stage as part of the Gulf Coast Intercollegiate Consortium Jazz Festival.
Vivens is one of Houston’s most accomplished and in-demand bass players. He has brought his boundless energy to numerous diverse groups from the classic jazz of the Duke Ellington Orchestra to Grammy award-winning Tejano of La Mafia, while also serving as musical director for Houston’s acclaimed diva Yvonne Washington.
The GCIC Jazz Festival is a celebration of Houston-area community colleges and their significant contribution to the local jazz scene. The schedule of bands and their guest artists is:
12 p.m. — Brazosport College Jazz Band with Keith Vivens, vocals/bass
1 p.m. — Alvin Community College Jazz Ensemble with Kelly Dean, vocals/sax
1:45 p.m. — Alvin Community College Big Band with Kelly Dean, vocals/sax
2:30 p.m. — College of the Mainland Jazz Ensemble with Johnny Gonzales, sax
3:30 p.m. — San Jacinto College Central Jazz Ensemble with Shelley Carroll, sax
