BC Student Life Coordinator Kelli Forde, left, and BC Habitat for Humanity President Kayla Smith will represent Brazosport College at the Habitat for Humanity Youth Leadership Conference and Young Leaders Summit on Nov. 7 to 9 in Charlotte, N.C.

Since forming last year, Brazosport College’s Habitat for Humanity campus chapter has been a benefit to its community.

Partnering with Habitat for Humanity of Southern Brazoria County, the BC chapter has participated in builds, fundraisers, and other activities, while gaining valuable experience in helping others along the way.

Now the organization will get to share its success stories on a national level.

The Habitat for Humanity at Brazosport College campus chapter was recently awarded two scholarships to attend Habitat’s Youth Leadership Conference and Young Leaders Summit on Nov. 7 to 9 in Charlotte, N.C.

BC’s representatives, Student Life Coordinator Kelli Forde and BC Habitat President Kayla Smith, will join more than 300 other youth leaders to celebrate accomplishments from the past year and to share success stories.

“We value our commitment to addressing issues of poverty and housing, and care deeply for the families that we have the privilege to impact,” Smith said. “We are honored to spread the word that our youth is coming together to ensure the seasoned volunteers of Habitat for Humanity that our future is in good hands. We are the youth of the present, which will also be the leaders in the future. We are strong, vibrant, intelligent, genuine and impacting individuals.”

At the conference, young leaders will have an opportunity to meet with Habitat for Humanity’s international staff, as well as attend a variety of workshops to learn tips and tricks toward making their local Habitat team successful.

“The Youth Leadership Conference will help the organization’s leaders motivate our members to be more active in the organization and within our greater community,” Smith said. “As a result of the Youth Leadership Conference, we will be able to work together to create a bonded organization, in which we commit to create a better quality of life for our local community. We look forward to being inspired by the Youth Leadership Conference, and ultimately turning that inspiration into positive change.”
