Football coach, BC adjunct professor named to Hall of Honor
Former Sweeny High School athletics director and current Brazosport College adjunct professor Tommy Zajicek was recently recognized as one of southeast Texas’ greatest high school football coaches.
Zajicek was inducted into the Greater Houston Football Coaches Association’s Hall of Honor on May 7.
Zajicek is a familiar name with local high school football fans. As Sweeny High School’s head football coach from 1989-98 and 2005-09, he led the Bulldogs to 12 playoff appearances in 17 years at the helm, as well as claiming nine district championships. While at Sweeny, he accumulated a 120-47-7 record.
The former Sweeny coach has been an adjunct professor at Brazosport College since 2010, teaching the Learning Frameworks (PSTC 1300) course at Sweeny and Columbia high schools.
“Tommy has been a huge asset for our department,” said Kelley O’Neal, Director, Brazosport College Student Success Center. “Having someone to work with those two high schools who is intimately familiar with the faculty, staff and students has been integral in the development of the course at those institutions.”
Brazosport College’s Learning Frameworks course is designed to introduce students to psychological theories of learning, cognition and motivation to serve as a conceptual basis for college-level student academic strategies. Activities are designed to help the student promote and apply newly learned study strategies and skills.
