College and Community Band to perform at Historical Museum

Wed Dec 4, 2013

The Brazosport College and Community Band will present a concert of “Carols in the Museum” at 7:30 p.m. on Monday, Dec. 9. The performance will be offered at no cost to the public, and will be held in the Lake Jackson Historical Museum at 249 Circle Way, Lake Jackson.

The College and Community Band will be under the direction of Richard Birk.

“We’re bringing carols to downtown Lake Jackson with a program that will include familiar holiday favorites, as well as exciting new settings of Christmas music for band,” Birk said.

Selections scheduled to be performed on Dec. 9 include:

Veni, Veni – a gorgeous band setting of Mannheim Steamroller’s “O Come, O Come, Emmanuel.”

A Cambridge Carol – a delightful arrangement of the 16th-century French carol “Ding Dong Merrily on High.”

First Noel - a clever treatment that combines this traditional carol with Pachelbel’s Canon.

Celtic Carol – a rousing Celtic setting of “What Child Is This?”

The Sounds of Christmas – a medley of holiday favorites including “Rudolph, The Red-Nosed Reindeer,” “The Little Drummer Boy,” “Sleigh Ride” and “Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas.”

A Jammin’ Caribbean Christmas – experience Christmas with an island flair that includes “The Virgin Mary Had a Baby Boy,” “Bring a Torch, Jeannette, Isabella” and “Go Tell It On the Mountain.”

A Holiday Galop – the melodies of “Jingle Bells,” “God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen,” “Twelve Days of Christmas” and “Jolly Old St. Nicholas” are brought together in the style of a brisk circus gallop.
