College and Community Band to host Christmas concert

Tue Nov 28, 2017

The Brazosport College Department of Music will host an afternoon Christmas concert performance by the College and Community Band at 2:30 p.m. on Sunday, December 3. The College and Community Band will be under the direction of Brian Casey.

The performance will be offered at no cost to the public, and will be held in The Clarion, located just east of the main building at 500 College Drive, Lake Jackson.

Sunday’s concert will feature a diverse mix of entertaining Christmas music. The selections scheduled to be performed on December 3 include:

“Fanfare for Christmas”  A rousing concert opener by James Curnow.

“The First Noel” — This clever arrangement by Jeff Simmons combines this well-known carol with Pachelbel’s “Canon.”

“Hark! The Herald Tubas Sing” — When do the tubas ever get to play the melody? On this Michael Sweeney arrangement of Felix Mendelssohn’s carol!

“Minor Alterations” — David Lovrien composed this very challenging medley of Christmas tunes, traditionally in major keys, now in minor keys, giving them each an entirely different character.

“A Charlie Brown Christmas” — Very recognizable Vince Guaraldi tunes from the famous television special.

“Silent Night” — A stunning arrangement by Nashville composer Jay Dawson. This promises to be very moving in the beautiful acoustics of The Clarion.

“Christmas With Mozart”  This hilarious composition is from the pen of Julie Giroux.

“Sleigh Ride”  The original Leroy Anderson Christmas favorite.
