Chamber Choir to perform on March 5 at the Clarion
The Brazosport College Department of Music will present a concert by the Chamber Choir at 2:30 p.m. on Sunday, March 5 in the performance hall of The Clarion at Brazosport College.
The Chamber Choir is an auditioned choir of singers from the College’s student body, including both music majors and non-music majors.
Works on this mostly a cappella concert include music by Maurice Durufle, Anton Bruckner, John Rutter, Knut Nystedt and Ola Gjeilo.
The chorus is under the direction of Rodney Mason, Brazosport College Director of Choral and Keyboard Activities, and supported by piano accompanist Dawn Grimes.
Swedish composer Gjeilo’s “Prelude” will start the program, followed by Durufle’s “Tu es Petrus.” Two sacred pieces, “Locus iste” and “Os justi,” by Bruckner, will complete the opening sacred set. Rutter’s “Blow, Blow, thou Winter Wind” and “Good Ale,” from his collection “When Icicles Hang” will follow with “Praise to God” by Nysted, closing the program.
A majority of the choir members also will be traveling to Berlin, Germany this summer to participate in a Lutherfest Concert at the Berliner Dom, under the direction of esteemed Bach specialist, Helmut Rilling. Members of the community are invited to travel and sightsee with the choir, and hear the concert of the Festival Chorus.
