Brazosport College’s Student Government Association was recently named the best in Texas for 2016 by the Texas Junior College Student Government Association. SGA members include Kaleb Klug, Josi Coulter, Christina Wilkerson Laird, Antonio Zamoralez (advisor), Riley Guilbeaux, Sheila Tarrant, Hong Binh To, Andy Soto and Kelli Forde Spiers (advisor).

Brazosport College’s Student Government Association (SGA) was recently named the best in Texas for 2016 by the Texas Junior College Student Government Association (TJCSGA).

This is the second time in three years for Brazosport College’s SGA to earn this prestigious honor. BC also earned the award in 2014.

The announcement was made at the TJCSGA’s annual convention earlier this month in Austin.

Brazosport College’s awards didn’t end there, however, as student Riley Guilbeaux also earned third-place honors for Student of the Year. Guilbeaux is the SGA Treasurer, as well as a Supplemental Instruction (SI) Leader for the College.

Brazosport College’s SGA represented Region V at the convention and sent seven students and two advisors to the event.

Before going to the state convention, Brazosport College’s SGA attended the region conference, where it also earned the top chapter award. Guilbeaux was named the region’s Student of the Year.

As an advisor to SGA, it has been a privilege to watch this group of students lead an organization that focuses on serving the BC and greater community,” said SGA advisor Kelli Forde Spiers. “It is a huge honor to be selected for the highest award within the Texas Junior College Student Government Association and I am extremely proud of the organization’s accomplishments this year.”

The Texas Junior College Student Government Association is the only student-maintained organization in the state that works to promote the cause of community college students at the local, regional, state and national level, and is composed of over 72 member colleges, split into six regions, across the state. The state convention was an opportunity for SGAs from community colleges across the state of Texas to come together and share ideas, make decisions and network with one another.
