Brazosport College Department of Music to present ‘Campus Carols’

Thu Feb 2, 2017

Performing with special guest Angleton Junior High School Varsity Women’s “Encore,” the Brazosport Choral Union will be presenting a concert of holiday music at 7:30 p.m. on Dec. 6 at The Clarion at Brazosport College.

The “Encore” women’s chorus, directed by Angleton Junior High School Head Choir Director Sybil Crawford, will perform “Gloria” by Rae Moses, and “It’s Christmas,” a medley of favorite holiday songs arranged by Andy Beck. Combining with the Brazosport Choral Union, they will continue with a medley of “Away in a Manger,” settings arranged by Mark Hayes.

The Brazosport Civic Chorus will present traditional holiday tunes “Still, Still, Still,” “Deck the Halls” and “Gloria.” The Brazosport College Chamber Choir will also separate from the large chorus to offer an arrangement by Paul Wohlgemuth of a 13th-century plainchant, “Of the Father’s Love Begotten” and William Byrd’s 17th-century setting of “Ave Verum Corpus.”

The Brazosport College Jazz singers will render some swing versions of “I’ll be Home for Christmas/There’s No Christmas Like a Home Christmas,” arranged by Lojeski, and “God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen,” arranged by Marilyn Shennenberger. Jazz Singer men will sing Rodney Mason’s arrangement of Vince Girardi’s “Peanuts” theme, “Christmas Time is Here.”

The combined choirs that form the Choral Union, with soloist Chris Ransier, Assistant Choir Director at Angleton Junior High School, will join for Craig Hella-Johnson’s arrangement of “Low How a Rose/ The Rose.”

The performance will be capped with an audience sing-a-long of traditional Christmas carols. Dawn Grimes serves as accompanist for the Choral Union, which is directed by Director of Choral Activities at Brazosport College, Rodney Mason.

The concert is free of charge, but the donation of non-perishable food item/personal hygiene or monetary donation to benefit the Brazosport College Student Food Pantry would be appreciated.
