BC’s ATX Jumpstart program to host information sessions
Since Brazosport College began its free job-skills training Jumpstart program, more than 100 people with high school diplomas or GEDs have completed the nine-week training and earned entry-level certifications for specialized industrial jobs.
In addition to the regular nine-week Jumpstart training for those with diplomas or GEDs, Brazosport College also offers a free 16-week program for individuals who lack a high school diploma or GED. The program is funded by an Accelerate Texas grant and students will be trained for entry-level certifications in the pipefitting field.
Applicants must pass a qualifying test and must be willing to commit four days a week to the program.
To ensure potential students know their options, Brazosport College is offering six information sessions, on consecutive Tuesdays from March 29 through May 3 that not only outlines the ATX Jumpstart and GED programs, but also allows time for questions and answers. The sessions will be in the Community Education Department Room B117 on the BC main campus.
Dates and times for the information sessions are:
· March 29 at noon
· April 5 at noon
· April 12 at 6 p.m.
· April 19 at noon
· April 26 at noon
· May 3 at 6 p.m.
Graduating students will earn nine college credit hours, a Marketable Skills Award from Brazosport College, an NCCER Core Curriculum Certification and Blue Card, and an NCCER Level 1 Pipefitter Helper Certification.
The full-semester program will run this summer and will include two days of skills training and two days of GED prep classes each week with Fridays being an off day. After completing the program, graduates will have earned multiple industry-recognized certificates that are portable and stackable.
