BC summer jazz concert scheduled for July 2

The Brazosport College Department of Music will host a summer jazz concert by the Brazosport College Summer Jazz Band at 7:30 p.m. on Monday, July 2. 

“Come kick off your Fourth of July celebration early with some of America’s classical music – jazz,” said director Richard Birk. “We’ll be playing everything from jazz classics to brand new selections for contemporary jazz ensemble. There will be a little something for everybody,”

Some of the selections to be performed by the BC Summer Jazz Band on July 2 include Stan Kenton Orchestra’s“A Little Minor Booze;” Modern Jazz Quartet’s“The Golden Striker;” fusion guitarist John Scofield’s “I’ll Take Les;” reggae from The Jazz Police Big Band,“Savanna;” “Beautiful Maria,” a gorgeous bolero by Antonio Banderas from the 1992 film “The Mambo Kings;” Charles Mingus’ tribute to Lester Young,“Goodbye Pork Pie Hat;” and a laid-back swing penned by former “Tonight Show” saxophonist Ernie Watts, “Some Kind a Blue.”
