BC Summer Jazz Band to perform July 1 at the Clarion
The Brazosport College Department of Music will host a summer jazz concert by the Brazosport College Summer Jazz Band at 7:30 p.m. on Friday, July 1.
The concert is free and will be at The Clarion at Brazosport College, located just east of the Brazosport College main building at 500 College Drive, Lake Jackson.
“We’ll be playing everything from jazz standards to brand new selections for contemporary jazz ensemble,” said director Richard Birk. “There will be a little something for everybody. Come kick off the Fourth of July holiday weekend with some of America’s classical music — jazz!”
Some of the selections to be performed by the BC Summer Jazz Band on July 1 include an updated version of Ray Charles’ classic, “One Mint Julep;” Stan Kenton’s fiery latin anthem, “La Suerte de los Tontos;” the Ventures 1960’s hit, “Walk, Don’t Run;” the traditional New Orleans classic, “Just a Closer Walk With Thee;” David Benoit’s smooth jazz hit “Six P.M.;” and Charles Mingus’ tribute to early jazz pianist Jelly Roll Morton, “Jelly Roll.”
