BC Summer Jazz Band set for holiday concert
The Brazosport College Department of Music will host a Summer Jazz Concert by the Brazosport College Summer Jazz Band at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, July 2.
“Come kick off the Fourth of July holiday with some of America’s classical music – jazz,” said Brazosport College Coordinator of Music Richard Birk. “We’ll be playing everything from big band standards to brand new selections for contemporary jazz ensembles, as well as a swinging version of ‘Stars and Stripes Forever.’ There will be a little something for everybody.”
Some of the selections to be performed by the BC Summer Jazz Band on July 2 include Duke Ellington’s classic from the Great American Songbook, “Cottontail,” Horace Silver’s burning samba, “Nutville,” George Gershwin’s standard, “Summertime,” Freddie Hubbard’s funky original, “Red Clay,” Count Basie’s relaxed version of “Nice and Easy” and Charles Mingus’ raucous blues “Boogie Stop Shuffle.”
The concert is free and will be at The Clarion at Brazosport College, located just east of the main building at 500 College Drive in Lake Jackson. For more information, call (979) 230-3658.
