Brazosport College was recently ranked as the top community college in Texas by TheBestSchools.org, a higher education and career website.
The ranking was featured in an article titled “The 50 Best Community Colleges in the United States.” Brazosport College ranked No. 29 overall.
The top community colleges were selected based on a comparison of several studies and ratings, along with the schools’ reputations. While completion and graduation rates are important to any college’s success, the organization identified several factors as especially significant. Among those criteria were sustained achievement outcomes, learning outcomes, deployment outcomes, equitable outcomes and cost-to-value outcomes.
In its evaluation of Brazosport College, the website noted that Brazosport College has doubled its retention rates, reduced achievement gaps and improved significantly in helping students — particularly minority students — complete their degree programs. Today, 68 percent of all awards are conferred.
“It’s an honor to be recognized for our dedication toward improving student outcomes,” said Brazosport College President Dr. Millicent Valek. “Student success has been our central focus for a number of years. The faculty and staff here at Brazosport College are committed to helping our students succeed in the classroom, as well as having successful entries into the job market.”
Two other Texas community colleges made the list, including Clarendon College at No. 36 and Southwest Texas Junior College at No. 42.
Earlier this year, Brazosport College also was named the top Texas school and among the top 10 in the nation by The Aspen Institute.
