BC Jazz Band, Jazz Singers to perform on Feb. 20

The Brazosport College Jazz Band and Jazz Singers will present a jazz concert at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, February 20 at The Clarion at Brazosport.

The concert is free, and the public is cordially invited.

Selections to be performed include the following from the BC Jazz Band:

Tenor Madness – an up-tempo blues by NEA Jazz Master Sonny Rollins

Five Foot Two, Eyes of Blue – a Dixieland classic

Sack of Woe – a soul jazz blues by trumpeter Nat Adderley

In a Sentimental Mood – a gorgeous ballad by Duke Ellington

Softly As In a Morning Sunrise – a bright Latin version of this 1928 Oscar Hammerstein Broadway hit

Gingerbread Boy – a New Orleans street beat setting by saxophonist Jimmy Heath

Selections from the Jazz Singers will include:

I Got Rhythm­ – George Gershwin’s toe tapper re-cast by 1980s fusion supergroup Yellowjackets

A Day in the Life of a Fool - a haunting Latin ballad arranged by Paris Rutherford

Trashin’ the Camp – Phil Collins’ novelty hit from Disney’s Tarzan

Our Day Will Come -1963 No. 1 chart topper by Ruby and the Romantics, later reintroduced by Frankie Vallie in 1975

Royals- the pop hit from teen New Zealand newcomer Lorde
