BC Jazz Band, Jazz Singers to perform Oct. 13 at the Clarion

The Brazosport College Jazz Band and vocal soloists from the Jazz Singers will take the stage at The Clarion at Brazosport College for their first concert of the fall semester at 7:30 p.m. on Friday, October 13.

The BC Jazz Band will be under the direction of Richard Birk, while the vocal soloists from the Jazz Singers will be under the direction of John Calderon.

The BC Jazz Band will perform a variety of swing classics, including Duke Ellington’s “It Don’t Mean a Thing (If it Ain’t Got That Swing),” Horace Silver’s “Sister Sadie” and Charles Mingus’ “Nostalgia in Times Square,” as well as funky jazz standards “Alligator Boogaloo” by Lou Donaldson, “Listen Here” by Eddie Harris and “Backlash” by Donald Pickett. Selections with a Latin groove will include James Nadel’s “Jo Jo Calypso” and Victor Lopez’ original merengue “Mr. Papi.”

Featured vocal soloists from the BC Jazz Singers will include Bruce Black singing “Gone With The Wind,” Zackary Doughty singing “I’ve Got You Under My Skin,” and Zachary Zarate singing “Georgia On My Mind.”

Admission to the concert is free and no tickets are required.
